Notice to McAuliffe
Parents and Staff:

Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016
From the Superintendent ...
The following appointments were made by the Board of Education at the Feb. 9, 2016 meeting.

Carl Perino Selected as New Principal of Goetz Middle School

Michael Saulnier Selected as New Assistant Principal of McAuliffe Middle School

About Mr. Perino

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Carl Perino to the position of principal of Goetz Middle School.  Mr. Perino will join Assistant Principals Effie Byrnes and Al Aires at Goetz on Feb. 16th.

Mr. Perino has served as an assistant principal in our district for 12 years at both McAuliffe Middle School and Jackson Memorial High School. He began his educational career as a Science Teacher.

Of equal importance in this announcement is the sincere appreciation and deserved recognition of Ms. Byrnes, who served as acting principal in Dr. Lessig’s absence. Her leadership and guidance of the Goetz Middle School during this time of transition is a testament to her passion for students and to her dedication to this district.

I encourage the Goetz community to visit the Goetz website, which has more information on Mr. Perino, including several upcoming opportunities for parents and staff to get to know him as he begins his tenure there.

About Mr. Saulnier

It is also my pleasure to welcome Michael Saulnier to the position of Assistant Principal of McAuliffe Middle School, which is the position vacated by Mr. Perino’s promotion.

Mr. Saulnier has been in the district for 12 years at McAuliffe Middle School, beginning as a special education math and science teacher before moving into a technology teaching position.

He is a member of the School Improvement Panel (ScIP) at McAuliffe and was also selected as one of the district’s Achievement Coaches last year. He will join Principal Debra Phillips and Assistant Principal Thomas Tarver at McAuliffe on or about June 20.

The McAuliffe website has more information on Mr. Saulnier and on the opportunities for the McAuliffe parents and staff to welcome him to his new position.

NEW!
Jackson School District Curriculum Online

We are proud to announce the launch of a new website that has a searchable database of the approved curriculum in the Jackson School District.

This resource, known as the
Rubicon Atlas Curriculum Program, provides public access to our most up-to-date curriculum, including overviews of content by grade level, unit summaries and the essential questions students are expected to be able to answer upon completion of each unit.

To get started, click on the icon above. Select the “Browse’’ tab to see a list of courses, or begin searching by grade and subject on your own.

For now, the site features our complete curriculum in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health and World Language. This site will be a living database that will be updated as we update our curriculum to be fully aligned with state standards. (e.g. Science, Music, Art, Business, Technology).

We are proud of our curriculum and we hope you will enjoy being able to take a first-hand look at all the ways we strive to help students excel.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Marking Period 2 and Semester 1 classes will end on January 28, 2016.  This marks the mid-point of our school year.  Please continue to check the portal for academic progress and if you have any concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher.

We are beginning the process of making course selections for the 2016-2017 school year.  Our 8th graders will be meeting with the freshman guidance counselor and learning about the opportunities of the high school academy programs this week.  Our 6th and 7th graders will be choosing their course electives via a course selection form that went home with all students.  Please check the website for those middle school course descriptions.

As part of our Character Education and Recognition Programs, we will be continuing to promote our Six Pillars of Character.  We will focus on the pillar of "Caring" during the month of February.

Please note that regular school attendance is important for student success, academically, developmentally, and socially.  If your child is having difficulty attending school each day, please reach out to his/her guidance counselor so that we can help develop a plan of action to improve daily school attendance.

Yours in education,

Mrs. Phillips, Principal
